The Princes Trust

The Princes Trust charity runs a 12 week training course for unemployed young people which helps to develop their employability skills. Hamwic Speakers provides a half day training course on speechcraft to help the Princes Trust trainees prepare presentations which they have to make at the end of the course. The training also helps their personal confidence, listening, feedback and interview skills.

The course material was developed by a Hamwic member based on the Toastmasters formula of prepared speeches followed by supportive evaluation. The sessions require knowledge of speaking techniques, which the trainers have learned at Toastmasters, and an ability to give good evaluations which is also developed at Toastmasters. The sessions also require an ability to think rapidly on your feet depending on the reactions of the trainees. That impromptu ability has been improved by the trainers participation in Table Topics.
