Hamwic Speakers held its first Toastmaster meeting on 10th March 2009 and after seven eventful months achieved membership growth to 20+ enthusiastic members. On 9th October 2009 Hamwic received the official chartered club status from Toastmasters International. Thanks to our many very talented members, the Hamwic success story has slowly yet surely unfolded over the past action-packed decade.
In March 2019 we’re arranging four very special celebratory events to mark our club’s milestone 10th birthday. These improvised, innovative and inspirational events promise some very memorable milestone experiences for our valued members!
Celebration Dinner
On Thursday 7th March 2019 @ 18.45 for 19.00 we gather together at the iconic Ferry Restaurant, The Elephant Boatyard, Lands End Road, Old Bursledon, Southampton SO31 8DN for Hamwic Speakers 10th Birthday Celebration 4-course meal plus after-dinner toast(s). The cost is £24.95 per person for everyone to include the meal plus glass of prosecco/fruit juice (for toasts). Dress code: smart/casual. Expect great quality food, great quality conversations and a great quirky venue!
Murder Mystery Evening
On Saturday 9th March 2019 @ 19.00 for 19.15 we meet again at the Ferry Restaurant for Hamwic Speakers ‘Play-A-Part’ Murder Mystery Evening. The cost is £17 for Hamwic members and other TM club members and £18 for non-members. The dress code is 1920’s retro –festive Christmas garb. Expect an excellent hot and cold buffet followed by a unique, interactive and highly entertaining murder mystery experience, with some very dubious and somewhat weirdly dressed murder suspects, superbly directed by a murder mystery maestro (Patricia)!
Tenth Birthday Celebration Club Meeting
On Tuesday 12th March 2019 @19.00 for 19.15 we meet at Studio 5 (Rooms 133 and 134) Richard Taunton’s College, Hill Lane Southampton SO15 5RL for Hamwic Speakers Showcase Reunion 10th Birthday Celebration Meeting. Expect a high-energy, interactive meeting with VIP guests, former Hamwic members reuniting with our present members, three prepared speeches entitled ‘My 10 year-old self’ with insightful evaluations; up to six quick-fire 1-2 minute ‘passionate pitch’ speeches followed by multiple succinct verbal audience evaluations, birthday cake and a quirky humorous topics session! Improvised Comedy Workshop
On Saturday 23rd March 2019 @09.45 for 10.00 we gather together at St. Denys Community Centre for Hamwic Speakers ‘True Life Stories’ Improvised Comedy Workshop. The cost is £16.50 for Hamwic members and other TM club members and £18 for non-members to include a buffet lunch. The dress code is informal. Expect a high-energy, innovative and humorous two hour session, working in teams and pairs that will hone our ability to confidently convey humorous true life situations to an audience. The improvised comedy workshop will be ably led by Anetta of Positivity Within.
