Over the past 5 years, Hamwic Speakers, Southampton’s Toastmasters International Club, has helped members of all backgrounds from across the city improve their public speaking and leadership skills. To celebrate the achievements of our members, we hosted a 5th birthday party on Tuesday, 11 March 2014 at Richard Taunton Sixth Form College.
The meeting was attended by over 70 people, which is a new record for our club!
Guests included Councillor Satvir Kaur, Councillor for Shirley Ward and Cabinet Member for Communities, Toastmasters Area 46 Governor, Peter Jagger, guests from the community, past club members, and members from neighbouring Toastmasters clubs.
The evening featured the presentation of our Toastmaster of the Year Award by Councillor Kaur to Diane Chamberlain.
There were also speeches by Robin Poole, multi-time speech contest winner, Diane Chamberlain, Toastmaster of the Year, and Ken Amy, our club’s co-founder.
Of course, it wouldn’t have been a birthday party without cake (cut by our co-founders Margaret and Ken Amy),
friends old and new,
or a classic group photo of Hamwic Speakers members!
Thank you
Thank you to all of our members and guests who made the evening such a special occasion! We hope to see you again soon at our next meeting.
