Several members of Hamwic Speakers are enthusiastic supporters of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, so when the locally based charity approached us to help develop the skills of their volunteer presenters, we jumped at the chance. It’s an interesting assignment which lends itself well to applying Toastmasters evaluation techniques.
The Air Ambulance volunteer presenters are already accomplished speakers who regularly visit other local community bodies such as Rotary Clubs and Womens’ Institutes to promote Air Ambulance fundraising. They don’t need basic training in how to present, but they would value informed and constructive feedback on how they could do it even better. Toastmasters’ evaluation techniques are ideal for exactly this sort of skills development and we are putting together a programme for an evening event which we hope to run for their volunteers in October. We are very keen on this kind of community engagement and have already run a series of training sessions for Princes Trust over a number of years.
